Live on the Ley: London, Glastonbury, Manchester gigs

Thanks to everyone who came to see me play support for Martha Tilston recently and for those that missed me, I’ll be up North again in a couple of weeks for my first Manchester gig in a long while… So if you’re in the area, come to Mono Bar in Chorlton on Sunday 10th May where I’ll be playing alongside fantastic local band Bells in the Birches (pictured below), fronted by the super talented Helen Riley who used to play viola in my band back in the day. Bells’ special blend of folky, bluesy, americana-style rhythms with a quirky Gordy-inspired twist is toe-tapping and catchy in equal measure. It’s gonna be a fun one – come down if you can!

In other news, as many of you know my album has been in the pipeline for a wee while now and although the studio time is done, there’s still a fair bit to do in terms of production, printing and getting it to your good selves! In the meantime though, thanks to the efforts and ingenuity of folk musician and all round good bloke Mr Jez Hellard, I am pleased to be releasing a live album alongside some of my favourite folkie friends.

‘Live on the Ley’ features 13 beautifully crafted songs performed by Scott Cook (a traveling Canadian troubadour and one of the finest songwriters I’ve ever come acorss), Alistair Caplin (violinist, singer and composer of rare talent), Nye Parsons (the impressively stylish double-bassist who I’ve been lucky enough to share a stage with from time to time), the aforementioned Jez Hellard and myself. Recorded during a live gig at St Dunstan’s House in Glastonbury, the limited edition CD also comes with original artwork and a twenty page lyric book with colour photos and essays from Scott Cook and Jez Hellard. If the sound of that tickles your fancy, you can purchase the album here

Plus, to celebrate the launch of the album, we have lined up two gigs – an intimate 50 ticket gig on London’s Brick Lane on Tuesday 9th June and a bigger show at the Assembly Rooms in Glastonbury on Wednesday 10th June. All the original musicians will be in attendance, and as an added bonus we’ll have enchanting songstress and singer of sublime songs Carrie Tree performing at both gigs. (Carrie was booked to play the original St Dunstan’s House gig but had to cancel at the last minute.) If that weren’t enough of a line up, the Glastonbury show will also feature West Country wanderer Gavin Austin who will no doubt regale us with his keen wit, honey voice and wealth of songs.

So all in all, the Live on the Ley launch gigs look set to be jam-packed with musical talent and some of the most inspiring songwriters I know!

It would be lovely to see some of you in Manchester, London or Glastonbury over the next few weeks so do pop down if you’re free. Full details of all gigs can be found on the gigs page at

And feel free to ‘like’ me on Facebook if you haven’t already 🙂

Enjoy the sunshine!

Springtime gigs with Martha Tilston

It’s happening… Springtime is almost upon us! After a quiet winter, I’ll be back on the road with Martha Tilston in March… and for the first time in ages, I’ll be venturing up to the North of England 🙂

To warm us up, we’ll be starting closer to home with a couple of South West gigs:

Thursday 5th March: Rook Lane Chapel, FROME

Doors 7.30pm, £14 in advance
Book tickets

Sunday 8th March, The Phoenix, EXETER

Doors 7.30pm, £12 in advance
Book tickets

Then towards the end of the month, I’ll be joining Martha for two dates on her northern tour – including my first ever gig in Durham:

Saturday 28th March, Old Cinema Laundrette, DURHAM

Doors 7pm, £20 in advance
Book tickets

Sunday 29th March, The Greystones, SHEFFIELD

Doors 7.30pm, £12 in advance

If you’re based in or around Durham or Sheffield, or indeed Frome or Exeter, please do come along and encourage any friends you may have in those areas to come along too. These gigs with Martha are really magical and her new album is an absolute treat and well worth hearing live… booking in advance is essential so get in there now so’s not to miss out!

Finally, please take a moment to like me on Facebook – I’ve almost reached 1000 likes so a handful more from you lovely folks will help me pass that milestone… whatever that means! 😉 Note though that there are two of us song-weaving ‘Nathan Ball’s so make sure you like ‘Nathan Ball’, not ‘Nathan Ball Music’ (cos that’s someone else!)

Springtime greetings all!

Sound Cloud Songs & Penzance gig

Thanks so much to all of you who made it out to gigs over the last couple of weeks. It’s been such a pleasure playing support for Martha Tilston and I’ve loved catching up with old faces and meeting some new ones too!

In case you missed out, Martha’s asked me to play support at her gig at The Acorn in Penzance this Saturday 8th November so if you’re in the West Country please do come along. Doors open at 8pm and you can buy advance tickets for £10 here

For those of you who prefer to listen at home, I’ve uploaded four new songs to Soundcloud which you can listen to free of charge here. The songs offer a taster of my forthcoming album which I plan to release in 2015.

And finally, a request… I’ve almost reached 1000 likes on facebook so if you do that sort of thing I’d be much obliged if you could ‘like’ me and help me pass a milestone 🙂 But please note that there are two of us song-weaving ‘Nathan Ball’s so make sure you like ‘Nathan Ball’, not ‘Nathan Ball Music’ (cos that’s someone else!)

Enjoy the music!
